Woodstock Community Exchange Guidelines

About The Woodstock Community Exchange

If you reside in our community or own a business here, you are welcome to post messages on the Exchange by sending an email with a subject line and a brief message.

Your message will be combined into a single email (the “Daily Digest”) and sent to all subscribers. Any message posted before midnight will be included in the next day’s issue of the Woodstock Community Exchange.

Keep it local

The Woodstock Community Exchange is exclusively for residents of Woodstock and its surrounding towns. Please refer to the provided list to see which towns are included in our community.

  • Barnard
  • Bridgewater
  • Hartland
  • Pomfret
  • Quechee
  • Reading
  • West Windsor
  • Woodstock

If you live in a different town and would like to post on the Woodstock Community Exchange, we kindly ask that you share your message on your own town's list or Front Porch Forum instead. This ensures that your information reaches the appropriate audience, even if you believe it would interest the Woodstock community. Thank you for your understanding!

Keep it respectful

Please ensure that all contributions remain respectful and considerate of fellow subscribers. Email has no “tone of voice,” so be careful in what you write. Discuss issues, not people. Don’t ascribe motives to others. Remember, you might not have all the facts. This community is meant to encourage constructive discussion, collaboration, and open exchange of ideas in a positive environment. Disagreements are normal, but they should be expressed in a civil and professional way. Personal attacks, harassment, discriminatory remarks, or any form of abusive or hostile language are not acceptable under any circumstances.

The WEC administrators reserve the right to review all posts and decide whether conduct violates these standards. If violations occur, appropriate action may be taken, including temporarily suspending posting privileges or permanently removing someone from the platform.

Keep it original

To help maintain the quality of the Woodstock Community Exchange, please refrain from forwarding content that has already been shared elsewhere. If you find an appropriate article online that you'd like to reference, summarize your point and include a link to the source. Posting copyrighted material is prohibited. Additionally, it is not appropriate to share the content of any private correspondence from or to a list member without obtaining explicit permission from all parties involved.

Keep it short

Our goal is to keep our communication clear and respectful for everyone. When posting, please be concise and straightforward. Long messages can be difficult for others to follow, which may discourage subscribers from reading your post. We ask that you limit your post to 300 words unless you have made prior arrangements with the WCE Administrators.

If your content exceeds 300 words, please provide a brief summary and include a link to a Google Doc. There are no word limits for linked documents, so feel free to write as much as you need. Creating a link to a Google Doc is simple. To learn how, watch this short video: https://youtu.be/7q6h1fYuYM4?si=vuzG6Ga6vdt7dCbZ.

Limit your posts

If you have an item to sell or a service to promote, please limit your posts to once per week. You are welcome to post until your item is sold, but please refrain from posting more frequently to avoid overwhelming the service. Thank you!

Sign your post

Please ensure that you include your first name, last name, and town at the end of your post. Submissions that are anonymous (even if your name is mentioned within the post or in your email address) may result in your being added to the "unknown" list, which could prevent you from posting in the future.

Create an eye-catching title

The subject of your email will be the title of your post. Make it engaging or thought-provoking. Avoid using all capital letters.

Proofread your message

The content of your email will be sent as is, including any spelling or grammatical errors. Please proofread your writing before pressing the SEND button, as once your message is sent, it cannot be modified.

WCE Administrator’s Authority

The WCE is overseen by a team of volunteer administrators. The administrators do not review posts before they are published. Rather, they revoke posting privileges for subscribers who don’t follow the guidelines. The administrators have the authority to warn, suspend, or permanently exclude any subscriber for any abuse or infringement of these rules and guidelines.  A subscriber will be notified if their posting privileges are suspended or revoked, and the reason for the action will be shared with the subscriber. The decision by the WCE administrators to block subscribers for violation of the guidelines is final.

Legal Disclaimer

The Woodstock Community Exchange administrators do not control or assume any legal or editorial responsibility for the content shared on this platform. Content is generated by individual subscribers, who are solely responsible for their own postings. Once content is posted, it is automatically distributed to all subscribers, and the WCE administrators cannot retract or modify this content before it is sent out. Additionally, all historical content is publicly accessible in the archives of the Woodstock Community Exchange.
