For the purposes of this list, we’ve defined the “Woodstock Community” as the town of Woodstock – plus the 7 towns that share a geographic border with Woodstock:
If you are a resident or owner of a business in one of these towns, you are invited to post messages on the Crier by sending an email to the Crier consisting of a subject and a brief message.
Your message will be combined into a single email (called a “Daily Digest”) which will sent to every subscriber. Any message that you post before midnight will be included in the next day’s issue of the Crier.
If you live outside the Woodstock Community, you are welcome to subscribe but you are not allowed to post messages on the Crier.
Subscribing to the Woodstock Community Crier is quick, easy, and free. Just send a blank email to woodstock-subscribe@lists.vitalcommunities.org.
To post to the Woodstock Community Crier send your message in an email to woodstock@lists.vitalcommunities.org
To cancel your subscription, just send a blank message to woodstock-unsubscribe@lists.vitalcommunities.org.
If you have a question about your use of the Woodstock Community Crier, please send an email to the Administrator at aroundwoodstock@gmail.com.
Note: This service is provided at no cost by Vital Communities, a regional nonprofit organization based in White River Junction, Vermont, working to engage citizens, organizations, and communities in creating solutions to our region’s challenges. To learn more, go to www.vitalcommunities.org.
The Crier is open to residents of the Woodstock community and their businesses. The issue doesn’t need to be unique to the Woodstock community, but it must be specific to issues of concern to residents of the community.
The Crier is called the “Woodstock Community” Crier because it caters to residents of the town of Woodstock and the towns with which Woodstock borders. Please refer to the list above for the towns that comprise our community. If you are a resident of some other town and are tempted to post on the Woodstock Community Crier, please post to your town’s list (or Front Porch Forum) — even if you really, really, think the people of the Woodstock community will be interested in what you have to say.
Postings must be civil and respectful to other list members. No abusive or threatening postings will be allowed. Any post directed to a specific subscriber is likely to be in violation of these guidelines. If you wish to engage with a subscriber directly, please use the Reply To Sender function, not the Reply to List function. Better yet, DM them via email or some other medium. Anyone engaging in what the list Administrator or the administration of Vital Communities considers to be abusive language or threats directed towards another list member may have their posting privileges revoked. It is inappropriate to post the content of any private correspondence to or from a list member without the express permission of all correspondents involved.
In order to keep the discussion list useful and dynamic, there should be no forwarding of content that has already appeared elsewhere. If an article has appeared on the web that would be appropriate to reference in the context of a discussion, simply summarize your point and link to the source. Copyrighted content should not be posted. The list Administrator reserves the right to warn, suspend, or permanently exclude any list subscriber for any abuse or infringement of these list rules and guidelines.
If you post on the Crier, please include your full name and town at the end of your post. Anonymous posts (even if your name is embedded in your post or in your email address) expose you to being placed on the “unknown” list, which may prevent you from posting again.
If you have something to sell, or a service to advertise, please limit your post to once per week. You are welcome to post for as long as it takes to sell your article, but please don’t monopolize the service by posting every day.
Limit your posts to events that occur in Woodstock and its contiguous towns. Please don’t post about events or activities outside the Woodstock community, even if you live in the community or know someone who lives here.
The software that runs the Crier does not handle long web links gracefully, so if your post includes a link to a web page, you will have better luck having the link preserved if you use bitly.com to create a short version of your link.
Also, the listserv software does not handle embedded or attached image files. If you insert an image in your message, attach an image file to your message, or include an image in the footer of your message (called stationery), your message will be rejected and will not be posted.
Make sure you send your post from the same email address you used to subscribe to the Crier. Sometimes people use a different computer or a different email account and are disappointed that their post doesn’t appear.
Finally, proof your post carefully before clicking the SEND button. Once you submit your post, it will appear in the next day’s issue of the Crier. The Administrator, has no ability to edit or delete errant posts.
The Subject of your email will become the Headline for your post. Make it eye-catching or thought-provoking. Avoid using ALL CAPS. The Body of your email will be posted as is, including any spelling errors. Proofread your copy to see if it makes sense.
